christmas

mornings are now unmistakably cool and misty (if not mistier than before, although i seriously doubt if it was just fog or it was actually smog that we would see during dawn before) here in diliman. it's already december and the first candle of the advent wreath had just been lit last sunday. now everyone's excited for christmas.
alright, you're probably branding me as some sort of psycho right now with a multiple personality disorder or something after i wrote that last (furious) blog entry and yet i'm here again, now talking about that season of joy and cheer... yes, christmas.
well, over the years christmas has acquired new meanings for me. before, it was all about excitement... excitement at the house's colorful decorations and seeing the christmas tree rise up, laden with lights, shiny balls, glitters and other whachamacallits. then on christmas eve, gifts would pile up at the base of the tree, while the sound of carols permeated through the cool air. eyes would light up at the prospect of getting new clothes, puto bumbong after the misa de gallo, and the noche buena feast. let's face it; we were more excited with the celebration itself rather than the birth of Jesus.
that was a child's memory of christmas. and it's now that i realize just how childish and immature it really was. now, there's always that feeling of sadness that i associate with christmas. while people revel in the cool weather in their new clothes, i can't help but wonder how many children out there don't even have decent clothes or homes to begin with? how many people sleep off christmas eve in hunger because they can't even eat three square meals a day, let alone prepare the traditional noche buena? how many families can't celebrate the season together because economic circumstances have forced a loved one to work abroad, away from home?
i could go on you know. perhaps you'd just probably say na nagdadrama o nagongonsensya ako. suit yourself. i really don't wanna sound preachy and all, but then why would i be ashamed to get the message (His message) through? before you lavish (and get lavished by) your loved ones with gifts, think on it... what would the season's Birthday Celebrant want you to do? Didn't He tell us to love each other?
well, there's so much love during christmas... it's just that we confine it to our families and friends. now how about spreading that love around so that everybody could feel the spirit of the season? think about it. He waits.
(just as excitedly as we wait for His birthday.)

About Me: Let me tell you what I'm not: I am not predisposed to bare my guts and soul here in the internet for the whole world to see just for the sake of it. It's just that I like writing, in the free and unstructured way that blogging provides for. I simply want to express what I think and feel. Is that too much to ask? Which leads me to my next point... I am not invulnerable, in spite of all my attempts to put on a face of cool composure, and desperately wanting I was good enough to fool myself. In short, I am not really what I seem. So, would you still take my ramblings seriously?
